Tension Headache Treatments - Find Out What Natural Treatments Can Work To Eliminate Painful Tension Headaches

When it comes to headaches, tension headaches are the most common, with the ache being experienced around the whole head or in a particular spot, such as behind the eyes or at the base of the skull. There are huge amounts of factors that contribute to tension headaches like anxiety, poor posture, depression, stress, and your sleeping pattern can also play a fair part. Headaches should not be overlooked as they often turn out to be signs of a severe medical condition. Such as a damaged blood vessel or even a brain tumor.

Writing it down in you headache diary will assist in differentiating this. It will also help you identify if it is certain foods or stress at work giving your headaches, happening 4 – 12 hrs after you have had a activating food. Moreover, you want to give your headache rating pointed at its severity i.e. 1 to 5, one being slight tension and discomfort and five being a disabling migraine. Only you can determine for yourself the severity of the pain you are experiencing. There are many tension headache remedies like chiropractic, acupuncture, and other alternative cures which are famous among those who suffer from tension headaches. “Headache”, a Journal published a research survey of more than 100 people who experienced constant tension headaches. Only 41% believed alternative remedies and methods had any positive impact.

At the Harvard teaching hospital, named Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, have of late conducted placebo-controlled studies of chiropractic effects, and acupuncture on tension headache. One study concluding that out of 29 students suffering from a range of tension headaches, one session of acupuncture lessen the total number of days, when they had headaches in comparison with the placebo studies in which false acupuncture was conducted. Nevertheless, on a separate research on tension headaches, 39 students had no convincing evidence that they had gained from acupuncture. However, tests performed on more than 150 people at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, showed that chiropractic spinal manipulation for a period of six-weeks showed an equal amount of improvements. Even four weeks after the treatment people who had received the therapy showed a marked decrease in the frequency and the intensity of the headaches.

BIDMC also deciphered that some natural remedies for a tension headache were equally effective, like Tiger balm, which is also utilized to help relieve muscle pain. It consists of camphor, menthol, and cajaput forming a type of aromatherapy. Studies carried out on 57 people compared Tiger balm, applied to the fore head, against a particular placebo ointment that that had a minty smell. Tiger balm was more useful in over 60% of the case studies even compared to acetaminophen, alias Tylenol.

In search of tension headache remedies, there is also a small list of herbs and supplements you should stay away from. Kava, which is prescribed as a muscle relaxant and will help reduce stress has not been proven to reduce tension headaches or help boost muscle relaxation. Its use has also been connected with severe liver damage. As always, use caution and consult a doctor before using any herbal  or natural remedies.

Alternative Medicine - An Explanation

Alternative medicine is a different way of thinking, a completely different lifestyle. Instead of going to a regular doctor where you will get prescriptions for drugs to help cover up symptoms that you are experiencing, with the alternative medicine the basic goal here is to get to the root of the problem, to make sure that you know what you are dealing with and can get rid of it for good.

While the complementary alternative medicine was once considered as being taboo, this is mainly because people did not understand it and did not realize that it is simply a natural form of medicine and treatment. There are a few interesting things about alternative medicine that anyone should learn more about.

The Biggest Differences

To truly understand about alternative medicine, you need to understand what the biggest differences are. Well one of the most major differences between this and conventional medicine is that conventional medicine more focuses on the relief of symptoms and rarely places emphasis on actually preventing health conditions before they start, whereas this is a major focus of the alternative and complementary forms of medicine.

Conventional medicine also believes in aggressive intervention in order to treat disease, while complementary and alternative medicine have a focus on sort of working with the body in order to treat it and get the person in good health.

Another of the biggest differences is that while alternative medicine is universal, in that there are so many different methods of treatment and ideals that can be used, with the conventional medicine the practitioners in the field, including the family doctor that you have now, are guided by strict rules that are set out for them, meaning that basically one size fits all, when this is really not an intelligent way to look at things when it comes to treating people, because all people are different and their conditions are going to be different as well.

It is very easy to see just how many major differences there are between alternative medicine and its conventional counterpart, and before you make the switch from one to another it is important to be aware of all the details and know just what you are getting into. The alternative and complementary medicines are still frowned upon by some because they are just not understood properly and so you need to really get what you are doing here.

Does Meditation Help You Loose Weight?

When you think of weight lose, images of the sweating it out at the gym and depriving yourself of food are far more likely to come to mind than of meditation.

Being still and breathing may not be what you typically associate with weight loss.

But the silva method claims that you can lose weight from meditation. Is there any truth to this claim?

The truth is, you can't just count calories and hit the gym to become slimmer. To lose weight, you have to work out your mind, much like your body.

The first thing you have to do to change yourself, is change your habits - the bad ones. Meditation is the key to finding out what negative beliefs you hold about food or health and helps you change them to positive ones.

So instead of relying on your willpower to not eat junk food and force yourself to the gym, you will soon overcome those desires - that is - if you practice meditation often.

Not only does meditation help with desires and habit changes for better health. Meditation reduces stress, leaves you feeling calm and relaxed. Stress is the a big source of weight gain. When you are stressed, your brain produces cortisone, which tells your body to store fat.

Many of us tend to eat out of bored, stress or even happiness. Stressors, good or bad, can trigger emotional eating for many of us. When you meditate, you actively reduce stress. ‘Emotional’ eating can be conquered when you align your mind body and spirit.

Visualizations are very powerful for weigh loss. When you visualize the things you desire and wish to become, it won’t be long before you become that person. The silva method has a powerful visualization technique called the mirror of the mind technique.

Looking For A Homeopathic Digestion Cure? Find Out Which Herbs For Digestion Can Improve Your Digestion

We are what we eat, eating makes us content and happy and having an excellent digestive system helps continue that happiness. The number of issues that poor digestion can cause are many and can definitely not be very agreeable. They range from diarrhea, a stomach upset, gas or bloating and my least favorite, heartburn. Modern medication frequently takes a dreadful toll on your system by trying to neutralize the acids present in your stomach. Doctors agree that it is hardly ever just one thing causing digestion issues. There are several herbs for digestion that you can take, Jamison Starbuck, J.D., N.D., who is a licensed naturopathic and homeopathic physician recommends: Fennell, Gentian, Aloe, Peppermint and Ginger.

These herbs and roots have been there for ages and and make ideal herbs for digestion. Peppermint is one of the oldest medicinal herbs that we are aware of and is usually seen in your garden or growing naturally somewhere. Author of the book “Herbal Medicine” Rudolph Weiss states that peppermint has three major benefits. It can encourage the gallbladder and liver to produce more bile, which assists in disinfecting the stomach from any inconsistencies. It also boasts of aesthetic properties that anaesthetizes the mucous membrane which prevents nausea and vomiting and also help reduce indigestion and gas. This is a very simple herbal medicine for digestion that can be consumed in various forms, but generally the more enjoyable is tea.

According to the book written by Phillips, S., et al. “Zingiber officinale (ginger) — an anti-emetic for day case surgery,” Ginger is well known for its aroma, think about that smell of frying the freshly chopped ginger while you are waiting for food to arrive at a table in a popular Thai restaurant or even the aroma in your kitchen when fresh ginger is being cooked. Ginger is also famous because of its anti-nausea properties. In a research performed on a group of 80 very edgy naval cadets, in the open waters on the high tide in 1988, they deciphered that Ginger had major advantages in lowering nausea and motionsickness. Not only that, it also showed that Ginger was an excellent pre-emptive measure, as well as cure.

Some of the other natural herbs for digestion, like Aloe, Fennel and Gentian, help the control and avoidance of stomach upsets. Fennel has a particularly strong effect against easing smooth muscle spasms and other digestive issues like morning sickness during pregnancy. It has also been known to be used in persons undergoing radiation to help ease their stomachs. Aloe, in addition to having a naturally soothing impact on your stomach, also consists of Vitamin C, enzymes, and amino acids. Gentian is one of the lesser known herbs for digestion. Owing to its bitter taste, which helps stimulate digestive juices, it makes it an excellent preventive measure against disorders such as stomach upset. Gentian also assists you in getting all additional nutrients into your system like vitamin B12, and iron.

Obtaining herbs for digestion can be as simple as growing them yourself, or purchasing them at the local stores, but keep in mind, if you are not sure then you should seek expert advice and do not forget to drink lots of water. Remedies using herbs can work,   as long as they are used safely.

The Coriander Herb - A Great Plant For Nutrition, Digestive Issues, And Reducing Harmful Cholesterol

Coriander doesn’t make the typical list of herbal medicines such as aloe vera, or ginseng. In fact, it isn’t even generally thought of as highly nutritious. Many people have eating the leaves of the coriander plant, AKA cilantro, because it is very common in mexican food. However, this plants seeds are referred to as coriander, and coriander seeds are very nutritious, and have some beneficial medicinal properties that many folks are unaware of.

Coriander has almost a sweet scent to it, and has been used as a seasoning in foods for this reason. It comes from the Mediterranean, as many other popular seasonings do. This region, with the arid soil and beautiful climate is very condusive to farming fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, and coriander is no exception to this. The leaves contain protiens, carbs, water, and of course fiber…even trace amounts of fats are in the leaves. It also contains minerals and vitamins, including calcium, potassium, riboflaven, iron, and its loaded with vitamin C. So it’s a very potent source of nutrition and energy for people.

Medicinally, coriander has been used to strenghten the stomach and aid in digestion, as well as help cleanse toxins and excess from the body via urination, and help to reduce a fever. Animal studies have shown it can be one of several foods that aid digestion. It also can act as an expectorant for removing phlegm, and can promote a feeling of coolness to one who is sick with fever. There is some clinical evidence that it aids digestion, and can lower cholesterol. So this isn’t just anecdotal evidence here. For these reasons it can be a good natural heart health herb.

The juices of coriander can be added to buttermilk, and then drunk to treat digestive and stomach disorders. Indigestion and nausea are two common ailments that coriander is used to treat, but some use it to relieve symptoms of more serious medical issues such as hepatitis, dysentery, and typhoid fever. The most predominant studies however show that the heart and cholesterol benefit coriander offers may be it’s best benefit of all. Coriander water is made by boiling dry coriander seeds, and then drinking the water they are boiled in once it has cooled. Be sure to strain the seeds out first before drinking.

Additional uses include eating dry seeds to treat diarrhea, reduce menstrual flow, and when coriander juice is mixed with tumeric powder, it may be able to reduce acne, blackheads, and dry skin. To treat skin problems like acne, a tumeric and coriander paste should be applied once a day to a clean, washed affected area such as the face, and applied right before bed. For these reasons, coriander has been one of many top herbal remedies in asia for many years

Of course, more study is needed before coriander can be endorsed as a substitute for modern medicine or other, more examined natural remedies for various ailments. But in the mean time, it is an extremely healthy herb that looks to very well have some excellent medicinal properties that have been used by millions of people over the past thousand years.

Practicing Meditation For Healing

When we practice meditation that brings our attention to our bodies, we may become aware of many aches and pains in our bodies that we hadn’t noticed before.  These could be very subtle or they could be very noticeable.  A pain or discomfort in a particular area of the body we may be inclined to try to get away from it or change it somehow, which is a natural reaction.  If the pain isn’t a result of some specific physical problem, like in the knees for example, then this may be a chance to really deal with the potential for release and healing. Let this be your beginners guide to meditation.

Many unresolved issues are actually held in the form of tension or discomfort that is held in the body.  The subconscious holds the past that has not been healed.  The body is a kind of storage for the subconscious to keep things that have not been completed in our lives.  That is why in meditation we may discover pain from this, welcome it and use it to release the original hurt.

We may gain insight into what we were holding and how it came to be visible to us as we experience release.  If we have an ongoing pain in a place like our right shoulder, we may be able to find the source through meditating and becoming conscious of something from childhood connected to our father.  This memory of a childhood reflection related to the father can be the vehicle for giving us some insight into the self.  The real issue is not what the father’s actions were at all.  He serves as the reflection of something that already existed within the self.

We may draw some understanding from this insight about a childhood experience about a pattern that has persisted in our relationships with men.  We may notice a way of relating, or not relating to men.  In the end we will understand this as a distortion of our masculine polarity.  We will see, through examining the source of problems in the past in our lives, that the issues relating to masculinity were influenced by imprinting from the father, and to the feminine, by imprinting from the mother.  They are the basis for the reflection and imprinting that occurs in our lives, and following the laws of sympathetic attraction will pull us to the parent that will enable us to work out the karma we’re meant to focus on in our lives.

The case is the same for emotional pain.  If we really allow ourselves to experience our emotions in our bodies, to be present to ourselves and honor what is happening, we will be able to notice what develops during this process. This includes coping with anxiety and depression.

We aren’t able to sit and meditate whenever we experience uncomfortable emotions or feelings.  The practice of regular meditation can give us the ability to be in the moment of each experience in our lives as it happens, and this can give us great personal power. You can also look to learn yoga for stress relief.

Some Of The Benefits Of Meditation

Meditation has its origins in Eastern culture, but it has been practiced for centuries in cultures all over the world.  Meditation refers to a large variety of practices and techniques and includes guided meditation, transcendental meditation and mindful meditation practice.  Many different techniques can be used, such as the focus of the mind on certain objects or words, or on the breath.  Sometimes a particular posture can be used but isn’t necessary. Let this be part of your beginners guide to meditation.

Meditation can be learned by anyone, doesn’t require getting special equipment, and can be done anywhere.  Meditation and yoga for stress relief can make a big impact. Even after the first session, you may experience a reduction in stress.  It’s been found by researchers that just 20 minutes a day is all one needs to do to reap the long-term benefits.  Even meditating 10 minutes a few days a week could produce positive results.

Meditation, if practiced regularly, can improve psychological and physiological health.  The brainwave pattern can be brought into the alpha state by meditation.  This is the state of consciousness which encourages healing.  Meditation promotes relaxation, mental clarity, psychological health, healing from different diseases, and mind/body health generally.

Scientists have found that meditation encourages the release of parts of the brain that affect the autonomic nervous system, controlling involuntary bodily functions like blood pressure and digestion.  Because these functions can be inhibited by stress, the relaxation effect from meditation can definitely have a positive impact on conditions that are related to stress, like digestive problems or heart disease.

In a study published in Psychosomatic Medicine, 90 cancer patients practiced mindful meditation for a period of seven weeks.  Patients found at the end of that time that they suffered from less depression, anger, confusion or anxiety.  They experienced fewer heart or gastrointestinal problems, and they reported higher levels of energy.

A group of people who had meditated for four months was studied by researchers at the Maharishi School of Management in Fairfield, Iowa.  The people participating in this study had a lower level of cortisol, the “stress hormone” in their systems and they said they felt better prepared to meet the challenges of stress in their lives,  which includes tips on dealing with anxiety and depression.

Research can help confirm some of what we know about, but there are obviously many benefits we can claim without research.  Meditation offers benefits to almost everyone, and has no reported ill effects.
