Omega-3 Fatty Acids Reverse Cartilage Damage

Omega-3 fatty acids have long been associated with promoting joint health, and a recent study from Cardiff University in Wales confirmed that omega-3s can slow and even reverse the destruction of joint cartilage.

Cartilage is connective tissue that cushions bones and prevents them from grinding against one other, especially in the joints. Omega-3 fatty acids work to protect cartilage by switching off the aggrecan- and collagen-degrading enzymes that break down cartilage. This, in turn, slows down the cartilage destruction process that occurs with arthritis, plus reduces inflammation, thus lessening pain.

One of the most important conclusions from this study is that supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids in early adulthood can prevent the onset of osteoarthritis, and also reduce the harmful symptoms associated with the disease. Fish are by far the richest source of omega-3 fatty acids.

However, if you’re not getting two to three servings of fatty fish per week, then you’re not getting enough of this important nutrient. Scientists recommend an optimal omega-3 intake of 800 to 1,100 mg of omega-3 fatty acids per day, including 300-400 mg of DHA and EPA. The average daily consumption in the U.S. is 50 mg EPA and 80 mg DHA a far cry from the recommended intake. Therefore, supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids is important to your health…

Different omega-3 fatty acids give different heart-health benefits

GNLD offers two excellent omega-3 products: Salmon Oil and Omega III Concentrate. GNLD’s Salmon Oil contains all the omega-3 benefits, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which support joint health and healthy cardiovascular functions.

Omega-3 fatty acids also support important functions of body tissues and organs, notably the heart, blood vessels, brain, nerves, eyes, skin, and joints. Omega III Concentrate also contains both EPA and DHA in balanced quantities, with the added benefits of GNLD’s special lipotropic blend, which delivers lecithin, choline, inositol and methionine to the body. Choline and inositol help keep lipids emulsified in the bloodstream. This, in turn, can reduce chances of heart disease.

An additional plus to each product: all oils are derived from healthy, fresh fish from pristine waters. Only body oils are used, which reduces exposure to substances which may collect in the organs, like herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals, and vitamins A and D. GNLD’s Salmon Oil and Omega III Concentrate are your best choices for omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, hands down!

Sports Injuries Treated with Fatty Acids and Antioxidant

A combination of essential fatty acids and antioxidants is an effective treatment for inflammatory injuries common to many athletes.

Researchers working with Denmark’s National Rowing Team gave athletes a combination of nutritional supplements to treat overuse injuries. The athletes used the supplements instead of the traditional method of taking non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which can have unwanted side effects.

The athletes were given a combination of omega-3 and omega-6 oils, vitamins A, B6, C and E, plus selenium and zinc. According to the researchers, most athletes responded positively to the treatment in as little as 2-3 weeks.

The study will be published in a scientific journal of sports medicine in the near future.

Athletes and non-athletes alike should take note of this research since it offers an effective method of treatment for joint pain that does not rely on NSAIDs.

This exciting research also supports the important role supplements play in the prevention of overuse injuries. The body needs essential fatty acids and antioxidants to maintain delicate joint tissue. A diet rich in these nutrients provides the body with what it needs for repair and protection of your joints.

Shocking Evidence Of Nutrient Depletion In Foods

Shocking evidence of Nutrient depletion in the food we consume was recently confirmed in a report published by Dr. David Thomas, a primary healthcare practitioner and independent researcher who looked at the difference between UK government published tables for nutrient content published in 1940 and again in 2002. The comparison was eye-opening.

It showed that the iron content of 15 different varieties of meat had decreased 47%. Dairy products had shown similar falls; a 60% drop in iron and up to 90% drop in copper.

Further Consequences Of Nutrient Depletion In Plants
In a report published by the UK’s Mental Health Foundation entitled “Feeding Minds” researchers conclude that changes in the way we produce food have reduced the amount of essential fats, vitamins and minerals consumed.

They point beyond the foods we consume to the foods we feed the animals we consume. In particular, the way we have changed the diet of food animals has altered not just what they eat, but what we eat as well. In many cases it’s changed their body fat composition, something that has driven the decline in omega-3 fatty acids in our diets… Read More
