Decades Of Research Or Catchy Current “News” Stories? YOU DECIDE

Recent news stories have attempted to minimize the importance of vitamin and mineral supplements (“The Vitamin Trap,” Mark Moyad, MD, Best Life, www.msn.com). Some articles have even suggested that using vitamin supplements can be dangerous (“Heavy Multivitamin Use May Raise Prostate Cancer Risk,” Ed Edelson, HealthDay Reporter, www.msn.com).These reports are short and sweet, but they don’t tell the whole story, and a longer look at typical headline articles is necessary to determine whether the risk of not supplementing our diets is worth the possible harm.

For several decades, scientific research and clinical studies have proven the benefits of healthy eating and the importance of including key nutritional components in our diets. On a regular basis, we hear from scientists, medical doctors, and other experts about the critical need to improve our diets…Read More

Bad Diets May Breed Deadlier Viruses

Bad diets may breed deadlier viruses says chilling new evidence presented by researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill suggests that poor nutrition leads to mutations of some viruses and creates more dangerous forms.

Mutations that create more dangerous forms of the influenza virus and may contribute to newly virulent outbreaks of viral epidemics ranging from the common cold to AIDS and Ebola may be, in part, caused by deficiencies of certain nutrients.

Deficiencies of selenium allowed the human influenza virus to mutate into more virulent forms in mice, and a similar mutation is likely to occur in people, according to a report in the FASEB Journal, published by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. “Once the mutations have occurred, even mice with normal nutrition are more susceptible to the newly virulent strain,” explained one of the researchers involved in the study.

The researchers stressed that proper nutrition not only influences the health of an individual, it can ultimately influence the health of society in general.

Scientists push to increase whole grain foods in diet

Scientists are pushing to increase whole grain foods in our diet because nutritional deficiencies causes over eating and we all know that over-eating causes obesity which lead to all kinds of health problems. So said researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.. Read More

Whole grains provide critical nutrients that are not available from other food sources. In addition to providing key nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber, whole grains are also a valuable source of lipids and sterols, the energygiving substances that have a direct influence on cellular health and efficiency.

For many people who are overweight the simple fact that they have become overweight due to poor nutrition and over eating results in many instances of vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

By simply supplementing the diet with vitamins and minerals in the correct quantities this will help to reduce those deficiencies and that alone can assist in reducing the need to eat copious quantities of food due to the constant feeling of hunger.

There is another problem that faces people who are trying to lose weight and that is the fact that many of these diet and weight loss programs create their own deficiencies in vitamins and minerals by not supplying suitable amounts of food to sustain the persons good health while trying to help them lose weight.

Any diet that leaves you constantly feeling hungry is lacking and more often than not it will also be lacking in your body’s need for vitamins and minerals.

Unless the diet has been prepared with the specialist help of dietitians who have a comprehensive knowledge of the bodies need for all the various vitamins and minerals then the chances of you succeeding on a diet will be minimal and this is one of the biggest reasons why many diets are a failure.

It is not so much the person’s willpower to make it work as the fact that the body is crying out for its needs and they aren’t being met with the food that has been allowed on that particular weight-loss program.

If you’re on a diet and you find that you are constantly hungry or craving particular foods then it will be well worthwhile supplementing that diet with a nutritional supplement that will give you your recommended daily requirements of vitamins and minerals.

You might find that a nutritional supplement taken daily is all you need to succeed at weight control, health and wellness.
